Best restaurant in calicut,,, hotel paragon,,,
This quaint restaurant has been around for years on end. I personally know it's been around for the last 15 years and the good news is that the food as before remains unparallered.
Paragon now has a fancily done up upper restaurant (with AIrcon/ Ac) and the wait time on weekends is just about 10 minutes. This is the only place where you will see locals, upper middle class , politicians and foreign tourists wait to sample their food. It's that awesome.
For a true taste of Kerala food, you need to ask them to bring Kappa(Tapioca) with the fish curry that is served with this. (spicy but you can ask them to get you a non- spicy fish curry that goes with this. Try the prawns varuttiyathu which serves the prawns in shells, succulent , sweet but with spice that tickles your tongue. Fish fry (Pomfret) is their forte as they have a secret reciepe that you'll find hard to resist. Try Squids fry if you are into that coz they do that well as well.
If you're a Biriyani buff, this is where they serve the best biriyani as well. Get the mutton/chicken. It's mind-blowing. I packed one back for my train journey and it was still awesome inspite of being cold. The rice is soft and succulent but not too heavy.
